What I like: The human amenities are beautiful. There is a bathroom complete with marble counters and sinks. There is a gym for working out as well as a full locker room with showers. The indoor wash racks with hot water are very convenient. The horses really like the pro mat stall mats. The oat hay that they grow is amongst the best I have ever seen and the horses really like it. There is turnout available via your trainer. ...a perk not available in most Bay Area barns. |
What needs improvement: The location is remote and on the grounds of former turkey farm. The barns have been converted to house the horses and the barn fronts have been refaced to look like an old town. The fronts are attractive and well designed however all but one of the barns is sided in plastic. The plastic flaps in the wind and many horses find it very frightening. The wind is horrendous. There is wind year round at the facility and it generally begins around noon. It gusts daily up to appx. 30mph. The heavy wooden jumps standards get blown over daily and it is VERY difficult to hear anything during a lesson. It was impossible to keep the letters up in a PVC dressage court or the sides in tact. The barn aisles are concrete and the parking lot asphalt. There is no safe place to walk a horse from a barn to any of the arenas. Since the barn opening in 2008 there has already been one equine fatality due to a slip in the parking lot. Turnouts are very seasonal. The ground is fine in the wiinter, very muddy in the winter. Turnouts are very small and horses are not allowed out for more than 2 hours. No water is allowed in turnout and there is no shelter during hot summer days or rainy winter days. There are no lights in the arenas (as of fall 2009). Of the 5 rings the ones with white sand ride the best. None of the rings truely ride as all weather despite the owners claims. You are not allowed to ride in all of the rings. You are restricted to the ring that your trainer is given. The place is under a 5 year construction plan to develop the facility into a show faciliy. Unfortunately this means construction is goiing on ALL THE TIME. When we were there it was not uncommon to find your horse in the stall while welding was being done in the aisle or on your horses stall. You have to ride with one of the trainers. The close environment with many trainers leads to significant conflicts and a very negative enviironment. All trainers are not created equally and some out there are borderline criminal in their behavior. The facility needs more landscaping. It feels like you are going into the desert when you drive on the property. |
