What I like:
Beautiful barns and grounds. |
What needs improvement:
This place is very poorly run with the care and welfare of the horse coming in as the lowest priority, a rung above the treatment of the boarders. This is THE ONLY game in town on St. Simons for boarding. There is one other place across the street, but it has a long waiting list. The rate, $650/month, gets your horse fed and its stall cleaned. Your horse might get turned out or it might not. This does not include blanketing - that is $10/day extra. If your horse needs more hay than that, it is $150/month extra.
I was told by Karl when I arrived that blanketing was included in the price. Then two weeks later he told me it wasn't.
Karl indicated that there were "miles and miles" of trails there - wrong. There is one trail that goes maybe 3/4 of a mile or so. You must stay on it. If you go off the trail and onto "Frederica," you are considered to be trespassing and you will get stopped by a security guard.
There are no jumps in the larger jumping arena. They put a few jumps into a dressage arena.
All arenas are bluestone dust, hard packed, with rocks scattered around. They drag the perimeter of the arena sometimes, but much of the time they do not drag anything else and the footing gets rock hard.
If you love your horse and want to keep him in a happy environment where you are respected and appreciated and your horse is taken care of, then you probably don't want to end up here. |
