What I like: I would rate this barn as below average due to the lack of integrity of the barn's owners. I came from Kansas with three of my horses for the owner, Peter Hansen, to train them. I dropped them--and my trailer off--and then four weeks later returned to be trained along with my horses.
Mr. Hansen rides only the horses that he likes. I lived on the property, in the living quarters of my trailer, for five weeks. I was in the barn or arena from morning until night. I discovered that Mr. Hansen was not riding horses who were supposed to be in training and, he failed to ride my mare save for ten (10) days.
I rode my German Riding Pony with Mr. Hansen's help and he started and rode my young horse, whom he liked greatly. He started him well but rode him only about 3 days per week which may, or may not, be appropriate. It does, however, cause the horse to still be very greenafter 60 days.
When I wanted to address with Mr. Hansen why he was not riding my mare and, that in my opinion the difference between us was that I saw horses for what they were and he saw them for what they were not, he yelled and screamed at me while within 6" of my face--twice.
I was not disrepectful of Mr. Hansen nor did I deserve to be treated as he treated me. More importantly, the horses who are supposed to be ridden by him deserve a better chance than they are getting. THe owners of both of these horses were thinking of selling their horses as they were not "progressing," one of them having no idea that Mr. Hansen was not riding her horse and the other boarder having a pretty good idea that he was not.
Mr. Hansen is a USEF Judge and advertises himself as a Beirriter. What I know is that ALL horses benefit from dressage no matter the level of their talent and all of the old masters said so. That Mr. Hansen believes that he can charge for training, decide which horses he wants to ride and which he does not, lacks integrity and honesty.
I am uncertain how this stable got on this site or how it has five ribbons given that there is no information about the barn. What I can tell potential boarders is that integrity matters. Talent alone is not enough.
Respectfully,
Autumn L. Fox

What needs improvement: The integrity of the owners and their attitude towards horses: that they are a beautiful and wonderful animal, not just a paycheck. |
