What I like:
Made some friends
What needs improvement:
I would have preferred a more relaxed and quiet place to farther my equestrian education instead of yelling, and by yelling I do not mean raised voice. I mean loud voice and sometimes hysterical behavior.
I was at this barn for a few months and it was a few months to many.

What I like:
Nothing
What needs improvement:
The horses are not properly taken care of, the fields are manure pits and the stalls are horrible.

The trainer belittles and insults the children on a daily basis. The training is not constructive, but destructive. The screaming is out of control.

Huge Rats are everywhere, even in the horses grain.

I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS FARM TO ANYONE.

What I like:
Some boarders were nice enough and the barn is pretty clean.
What needs improvement:
I was only here for a few weeks back in the summer due to the poor quality of the group lessons. The teacher would just call out what to do. There is no explanation or teaching. I learned nothing. The lesson horses are either grumpy or extremely slow/lazy. They are kept in filthy muddy stalls-can't even tell what's used for bedding. Way too many horses in the overgrazed fields. The main trainer, Bev, does yell at her students. There are much better ways to teach (she doesn't even really teach) then to yell.

What needs improvement:
I went to this barn to look at a horse for sale. I spoke with Bev...the owner about the horse two days before the appointment date. I showed up at the appointment and Bev had no idea who I was or why I was there. She completely forgot (obviously doesn't keep track of things well). The horse was sold the night before and I was never informed. She was completely unprofessional throughout the entire thing. She was sitting in a chair while I introduced myself and my client and explained why we were there. A true professional would have gotten up to shake my hand. Apparently she buys horses from an extremely untrustworthy dealer named Jay who is known for drugging his horses. From what I've heard all of her lesson horses are thoroughbreds right off of the track. I would never deal with her ever again.

What I like:
HGF is a wonderful place for boarding, lessons and summer camp. The owners take excellent care of all the horses and cater to specific individual needs. They offer lessons for all ages and riding levels. The lessons are challenging and fun. All barn activities have a focus on safety. The atmosphere is friendly, helpful and caring.
What needs improvement:
Owners have made major improvements in the few years since moving in. There's still alot to do but seems unfair to complain when they are working on it.

What I like:
When a new boarder or someone who is taking lessons come's to HGF, they make you feel so welcome. I love it there so much I call it my second home. The trainers are amazing, patient, willing and understanding. There is so much space to prepare, groom, and tack up your horse with in the 3 grooming stalls and crossties throughout the aisle way and a wash stall. Summer camp is a blast and safe with all the Counslers and CIT's. You meet so many new people. I love HGF!

What I like:
This farm is a real community that is family oriented, caring and well run. Rider safety is a first priority including the availability of high quality helmets for those who don't own them (Mostly GPA) and safety training during lessons. Horses get the best feed, care and consideration including daily (or nightly in the summer) turnout. Monthly barn shows allow anyone to participate and at very reasonable cost. Instruction is competent, caring and safety focused, but students are still challenged as appropriate for their skill level.
What needs improvement:
The owners have put a lot of effort into physical improvements since taking over this property a few years ago. Recent additions include a greatly expanded parking lot, a rebuilt exterior barn wall and skylights throughout the isle and grooming stall areas. While it would be nice for everything to be "perfect" immediately, there is clear progress. If there is one thing that could be improved, it would be adding more tack space for the continually growing community that is tending to families with multiple riders.

What I like:
I have seen the owner in action when people were going to put a horse down because it was lame,or sick, she put out her money and time and helped so many horses and ponies.
And she may raise her voice once in a while when kids are not listening, she truely loves EVERY child that comes to her for lessons. She only wants what is best for them, and truely loves kids and loves seeing them make progress.Trainers are wonderful!
What needs improvement:
The tackroom is a little crowded.
Alot of dogs,I think she has 4.
parking, but I think they fixed that and added more.

What I like:
Horses look great and very well cared for.

Families and people welcoming and always willing to help newcomers.

Long term riders that take lessons, but don't own horses still welcomed.

Lots of encouragement to set your own goals and meet those, be it pleasure riding or competition.
What needs improvement:
If you are looking for cut throat competition or lots of formality this isn't the barn for you. IIf you want a small town, family/friends feel, it is the place for you.

What I like:
My horses have gotten the best care, food, and handling here. They go out every day(night in summer) that has no precipitation with apropriate pasture mates. All vet farrier and dentist visits are well communicated and recorded. Barn manager/owner is vet tech and barn is open 7 days round the clock with owner on premise. Great footings in both indoor and outdoor rings. Beautiful jumps schooling shows 1x month with guest judges. Barn under constant improvement adding skylights for natural lighting sprinklers in ring sound system...This barn has 50's spirit of community and welcomes all disciplines all calibers with warmth. Safety is a focus as is ring etiquette. Always help available for training, handling, first aid, grooming. Clinics on such subjects are held to increase owner awareness/independance. Stalls cleaned daily with new shavings. Aisles lovingly swept by all constantly. TreAsure my years with
these people look forward to many more. Only barn I know that promptly returns phone calls.

What I like:
The owners know EVERYTHING about every horse. They are the first to know if something is wrong and take great care of them. Stalls are clean, feed is good, help with blankets, fly spray etc.

Horses go out everyday if weather is good. All night in the summer. Maybe muddy pastures, but they have lots of fun rolling!

The people. Low key, lots of adults and families with kids. Everyone supports each other. Kids and adults hang out together. They celebrate accomplishments instead of mean competition. HOW you act at a show is as important as how well you do.

Really available to adult riders with fear.

Helmets are not optional. If you ride, you have to wear one.
What needs improvement:
The owners have only took over about 3 years ago. They have been working really hard on facilities improvements and are constantly repairing, improving, adding etc. It will get to their dream farm soon enough!

What I like:
Some of the people here are extremely nice and helpful.
What needs improvement:
Everything at this barn needs improvement. Both of the instructors are lacking in their skill, people skills and safety (horses jumping with draw reins attached). There are over 40 horses on 10 acres!! Some of the horse don't even get to go outside. The horses that are outside live in disgusting conditions. There is no pasture on the property, only about 8 inches of mud which you have to drudge through to get the horses. The barn literally smells like a mix between a septic system and a swamp. The footing in the outside ring is absolutely horrible. Though the ring is a cinders footing, when it has rained it gets incredibly deep. The manure pile leaches into the ring when it rains, so you are riding through puddles of dirty dark brown water. This property would be great, if there were only 10 horses on it so the pastures would have the chance to grow.
