What I like: Everything!!! |
What needs improvement: I found this place to be a wonderful facility and would have never left had it not been for my own health problems. The barns are always immaculate and grounds kept up. There are automatic waterers and I did see the staff cleaning them bi-weekly since I was there in the afternoons. They have an indoor riding ring and 2 outdoor rings. Staff was always helpful, courteous and available. Night mgr noticed my horse was sick, contacted me and stayed with me thru all vet procedures and arranged for someone to check him periodically thru the night. Stalls may be concrete but you are welcome to use any type of stall mats you wish. They were offered at a group discount rate for those that were interested. My horse enjoyed being out for most of the day with his "herd" and I liked that in the warmer weather they switched from day to nighttime turnout. I would highly recommend this stable! |

What I like: Onsite showing available. |
What needs improvement: Dingy indoor and stingy "manager". This woman Sharon has nothing but her own agenda in mind. I can't imagine she has a paying position but if so the Gambones need to reevaluate her necessity to the farm. The farm's website boasts "the choice is yours" but good luck trying to manage your horse outside the parameters of what Sharon and company deem appropriate. A standardized approach to horse mgt., especially rooted in 'lots of grain, no turnout' mentality, is not acceptable to my horses.
How funny it took reduce board to get the boarders back and now it's higher than ever. A dirty, poor lit indoor, over crowded outdoor, and no approachable mgt is not worth $750/month. |

What I like: The indoor is very large |
What needs improvement: Management. Now that the previous manager has left, the facility is being "run" by a catholic school teacher that helps out in exchange for free board of her horse that NEVER comes out of it's stall. She is supposed to be available for set hours during the week (very limited) but she comes and goes as she pleases. If your horse is injured or loses a shoe, etc. you WILL NOT be called. The group turnout is very unsafe, several horses have been put down due to injures caused by wire fencing. Apparantly the place used to be a cattle farm and there is wire everywhere. The private turnout is limited to 2 hours per day and you can not choose when your horse goes out or comes in. The current owner who has taken over after the previous owners passing is elderly and basically just wants a check each month and does not care what goes on there so long as there is a face person there to return phone calls. One of the trainers, Amy Betz, is very disgruntled and rude. She yells at and has an attitude against everyone but her pupils. She also insists on exercising the race horses on her own schedule, not the one set by the barn, and it changes every day, she even rides them during lessons with little kids! She will also run you over if you are riding in her way and expects you to go in whatever direction she is going irregardless. Aside from having the most unprofessional trainer and "manager" working there, the stalls are straw over concrete (no stall mats) and the automatic waterers are always dirty. Lessons are rediculously expensive for the quality, or lack of quality, one receives. also, the lesson horses are often lame, are over-worked, and are of poor quality so you will not learn much here which is especially sad considering the quality of shows offered at this facility. There is also a rediculous piece-rate system set up in charging for feeding of supplements, fly masks and sheets, etc. This is only a good place to board if you are a very experienced horse person and can ride when the irreverent trainer is riding. However, if you can deal with the limited turn out and like showing, and don't mind checking on your horse every day then this place will meet your needs. |

What I like: Scenic views from the property and a clean property. |
What needs improvement: Someone needs to study up on personalized care @ this farm. I suppose having such an involved background with the race horses has now presented a nonexistent approach to individualized care for the current boarders. Your horse can 'enjoy' private turnout for 2 hours a day... Or be thrown out into group turnout for the majority of the day where he will risk being tangled in the trash left in the earth from years of neglect prior. Only one grain is available, either sweet or pellet. You can provide your own grain/supplements - free of charge, but good luck trying to get the workers to actually GET them to your horse on a consistent and daily basis.
Next, WHO IS IN CHARGE?! Too many cooks in the kitchen at this place. As a boarder you will never understand who to go to in order to have a request granted or to ask even a general question, like if the horses went out yesterday. What if an emergency came up. You would waste more time running around trying to find the proper authority rather than solving the problem at hand.
This is a busy, busy farm with a lesson program, USEF shows from Briarwood, race horses, etc. - also busy still trying to tie up the loose ends of the recent passing of the owner. I would stay clear of this stable until it is written out exactly what is to become of this farm. The last time this farm's owner had passed away the property and horses was left to decay. And history always repeats itself. |
