What I like: The trainer knows her stuff, from teaching lessons to feeding to barn management. She has a system and she sticks to it. You will no doubt learn valuable tools of riding each lesson.
What I like the most about Donna is that she did not pressure her clients to do anything they did not want to do, and encourages them to stick with whatever they are most confident and comfortable in doing. |
What needs improvement: The work for lesson program is very hard to stick with. Instead of 1 feed/muck per lesson like most barns, Donna does a pay program, therefore it takes several feed times for just one lesson.
Also, the spacing is very limited.
Finally, Donna is a highly credited trainer and judge, and communicates better with students who are serious about learning more and improving their riding abilities. |

What I like: 1. Owner/ trainer of the stable is an FEI rider, and also judges at many local shows.
2. She provides the horses with amazing care- they are fed three times a day, and are checked thoroughly every time they are fed.
3. Donna knows a lot about horses and riding, and is an excellent instructor. She is great with horses and is also great with riders of all levels.
4. For those students who can't afford the cost of lessons, Donna offers working student positions, where students get to take lessons in exchange for helping around the barn.
5. The barn is always kept clean and swept. The pastures are always free from debris, and the fence is a combination wood/ electric tape fence that is much safer for the horses than the barbed wire fences that can be found at many other places around town.
6. Donna gives lessons all hours of the day, and while she is gone on some weekends showing/ judging, she is never gone for a very long time, and she works hard to find lesson times that will fit with your schedule. Also, if you have to miss a lesson (due to inclement weather, etc), she works with you to find a good time to make up the lesson, and she lets you know ASAP if you won't be able to take a lesson at your scheduled time (due to weather, etc.).
7. Donna offers lessons in dressage, hunters/jumpers, and eventing.
8. Aside from offering lessons, boarding, training, and judging, Donna also allows the local pony club groups to come over and use her arena to practice in for their tests (so very active in the local horse community).
9. Horses are kept in a group setting, but there are only a few horses in each pasture, which makes the horses happy, but also keeps the number of injuries down.
10. Many of the boarders/ students that are there have been there for years! This says something about both Donna and On The Bit farm. |
What needs improvement: The only thing I would change would be more room! Donna has limited availability for horse boarding/training due to size constraints (although this does mean that the horses get much more personalized care). |
